SMOK AL85 Kit Review

Rumor is that my all-time favorite dual 18650 battery mod did a little you=know-what with the iStick Pico 75W and the result was the Smok A85 which essentially a smaller version of the Alien which has a few design feature similar to Eleaf’s very popular mini mod.

When it comes to functionality, ergonomics, and build quality, in my opinion the Alien 220W istill the best dual-battery mod your money can buy. That said, if you are on the hunt for something that’s just as good and fits in your hand even better, and you’re willing to compromise just a bit when it comes to power output and battery life, then Smok’s new AL85 will fit the bill just nicely.

The Contents of The Kit

The Smok AL85 kit basically comes in the same packaging as the 220W and most all other Smok products. This is one large cardboard box that has a picture of the included tank and mod on the front. On the back you will see a short description, a list of contents, and some information about the company.

Inside the box you will get one Smok AL85 mini mod that fits snuggely in a Styrofoam holder. Underneath that is the ever-so popular Baby Beast tank, a couple of coil heads that both carry a 0.4 ohm rating, a spare glass for the tank, a USB cable that is used for both charging and firmware upgrades, and an always welcomed user-manual. Here you have a standard Smok kit, which I personally along with numerous others feel is a generous and awesome package, compared to many other brands out there. What’s super-great is the spare glass that Smok provides should you accidentally brak the tank. This does indeed happen more than many folks believe. You will pretty much get all that you need to start vaping right out of the box, minus the juice.

If you’ve picked up the new Smok AL85, e-liquids from Halo would without a doubt be the perfect pairing for this device. There are several flavors that you can choose from which include Twisted Turnover, Tribeca, Kringle’s Curse, and Mystic Menthol. These premium American- made e-liquids will surely stand-out and not disappoint. Halo e-juices are available at Cactus Vape for just AUD $24.95 (30 ml).

Design Build and Quality

The ‘Alien Baby’ is sometimes what the AL85 is sometimes called, and rightly so since is basically a stubbier version of the very popular dual-battery mod the Smok Alien 220 W. Virtually the same is the general design lines, with the AL85 being a bit wider and shorter. It has a battery cap on top, right next to its 510 connection. The Alien 220 has its battery door on the bottom of the device. Other than the few mentioned items, this is indeed a mini-version of the Alien.

The AL85 sports the same firing bar as the Alien 220W. This makes it ver solid a simple to operate. It has the exact same OLED screen display with plus and minus buttons being located directly below screen, along with the very same carbon-fiber panel which features both the AL85 and Smok logos.

The AL85 measures just 71mm x 48mm x 27mm which makes it considerably shorter than its cousin the 220W, and just a tad wider, which after actually holding it, I find to be a plus. There are some mini mods that are sometimes a bit too small for comfort. The actual girth of the AL85 feels perfect in this reviewer’s opinion. It is for sure better than any other mini mod I’ve used to date.

To end this review, I need to mention the fact that the AL85 is available in a whopping eighteen color combinations, which include camouflage, color-spray, black and gold , along with black and silver.
